Yellow Face
by David Henry Hwang

Directed by Jon Jon Johnson

January 10 – February 1, 2020

Exploring the topic of race and identity drawing comparisons to the tradition of whites “blackening up” in the minstrel shows of the past, this play confronts the conflict of a contemporary white actor being erroneously cast in an Asian role. A quasi-docu-comic-drama that draws from elements in the playwright’s own experiences with the Asian-American community as well as the American entertainment industry writ large. With more than 50 roles played by the ensemble, this dynamic play will invite us to interrogate ourselves, and the world we are shown by the movies, tv shows, and (yes) plays we see.
