Winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, WIT is a powerful meditation on intellect and illness.

Vivian Bearing, a renowned professor of English who has spent years studying and teaching the metaphysical sonnets of John Donne, has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. Confident of her ability to maintain control, she approaches her new reality with the same rational and methodical conviction that has made her a brilliant academic. But as her disease and its painful treatment inexorably progress, Vivian reassesses her life, her work, and the standards that have always guided her.

We are looking to cast three women, three men, and an ensemble of four-or-more actors of any gender. All roles are open to actors of any race or ethnicity, and we are committed to diverse casting. More information about the show, its characters, and what we’re looking for can be found here.

Silver Spring Stage is an all-volunteer community theatre; all roles are open and unpaid.

Each audition session will begin with readings of scenes from the show. Afterwards, all candidates seeking to be considered for the role of Vivian will remain to read monologues from the show; candidates for all other roles will be released. Likely audition scenes and sides will be made available for advance perusal; email the production team at for more details. (Memorization is neither required nor encouraged.)

The audition form is here; please feel free to complete it in advance and bring it with you to auditions.
